Webflow alternative
Hatamoto vs Webflow
Webflow gives designers a visual canvas and hosts the result, and any site that uses its CMS has to stay on Webflow hosting. Hatamoto is open source, runs on your own server and charges nothing for seats or items. On visual design, Webflow is well ahead.

Six things to know before you build on rented ground
- 01
A Webflow CMS site cannot leave Webflow
Code export drops CMS content, forms, search and translations. Hatamoto exports the whole site in one command and runs on any server.
Export and import - 02
No seats, caps or plan changes
Hatamoto has no per-seat fees and no limits on items, collections or bandwidth. Webflow changed its plans in May 2026 and moves existing sites over at renewal.
Install Hatamoto - 03
Webflow is the better design tool
Its visual canvas, animations and real-time collaboration are a different class from Hatamoto's section builder. If design control matters most to you, that settles it.
Hatamoto's page builder - 04
Someone still has to run Hatamoto's server
Hatamoto updates itself, but you look after the server it runs on. Webflow handles hosting, patching and global delivery for you.
How updates work - 05
Schema markup written for you
Hatamoto generates JSON-LD for every content type. Webflow gives you a schema field to fill in yourself or with its AI.
Structured data - 06
Plugins run on your own server
Hatamoto plugins run in a sandbox inside the binary. Webflow has no server-side plugins, so any extra logic has to live in an outside app.

When Webflow is the better choice
Choose Webflow if any of these describe your team.
- Your designers want a visual canvas with full control of layout and animation.
- Nobody on the team wants to run or update a server.
- You need several languages, with AI translation.
- You need single sign-on and user provisioning for a large company.
- You want a shop, A/B testing and hosting from one vendor.
- Your agency already builds in Webflow.
Moving from Webflow
Getting your content out of Webflow
Hatamoto has no Webflow importer. Webflow's Data API returns every collection, and its CSV export covers simpler sites. Download your images before you cancel.

- 2

Questions people ask
Written by the Hatamoto team, from Webflow's help centre and developer docs as of October 2026.
Is Hatamoto a Webflow alternative?
Yes, if you want to own your site and avoid seat and plan fees. Hatamoto is open source and runs on your server. If visual design control or fully managed hosting matters more to you, Webflow is the better fit.
Can I self-host a Webflow site?
Only a static one. Webflow's code export needs a paid workspace and leaves out CMS content, forms, site search, translations and password protection. A site that uses the CMS has to stay on Webflow hosting.
How much does Webflow cost?
After the May 2026 changes, a CMS site needs the Premium plan at US$25 a month billed yearly. Workspace seats are extra, at US$39 a month for a full seat and US$15 for a limited one. Translation is a paid add-on.
Which is better for SEO?
Both cover titles, canonicals, sitemaps, redirects and llms.txt. Webflow adds hreflang through Localize and AI traffic insights through its paid Analyze add-on. Hatamoto generates schema markup for every content type and includes AI crawler reports at no cost.
Do both work with AI agents?
Yes. Webflow has an official MCP server that works within each user's role. Hatamoto's MCP server is built into the site, with scoped keys and an audit log.
How do I move from Webflow to Hatamoto?
Create matching content types, read your collections through Webflow's Data API or CSV export, and download every image before you cancel. Create the entries through Hatamoto's MCP server or CLI, then copy your redirects across.
Do I need a developer to run Hatamoto?
Someone needs to set up a server and Postgres once, using Docker or the single binary. After that, updates install themselves and editors work in the admin. With Webflow there is nothing to install.
