Move from WordPress

Bring your WordPress site with you, and keep your URLs.

Import posts, pages, media, menus and SEO settings from a live site or an export file, then check every old address still works.

Importerhatamoto import wordpress
# 1. See what you have
hatamoto import wordpress --url https://old.example.com --user admin --scan-only

# 2. Import, then audit every old URL against the new site
hatamoto import wordpress --url https://old.example.com --user admin \
    --audit-url https://new.example.com

Moving CMS is where search traffic goes to die.

Old addresses break, redirects get forgotten and you find out from analytics a month later. The importer checks them for you before you switch.

What you get

  • Live site or export file

Read from the WordPress REST API with an application password, or from a WXR export file.

    --url or --wxr
  • Scan before you commit

A scan lists the plugins, page builders and shortcodes you use, so you know the hands-on work in advance.

    --scan-only
  • An audit of every old URL

Each old address is checked against the new site. One 301 or 308 to a page that answers 200 passes. A 302, a chain, a 404 or a redirect to nowhere is listed as a failure.

    --audit-url
  • Safe to run again

A run can be repeated, and an interrupted run can resume from its run id.

    --resume <run-id>
  • A wizard in the admin

Prefer clicking? The same import runs from a wizard, with a Resume button.

    Admin import
  • An honest list of what stays behind

Comments, shops, page-builder layouts, forms and plugin data are not converted, and the docs say what to do about each.

    What is not imported
    Not imported

Under the hood

  • Authors become people

User accounts and passwords are not imported. Invite your editors afterwards.

  • Private content stays private

Private and password-protected posts import as drafts and are never published.

  • Page builders keep their text

Elementor, Divi and similar layouts keep the text, are marked low fidelity and are listed for review.

Questions people ask

Will my comments come across?

No. Hatamoto has no comments, so export them from WordPress first if you want to keep them.

Will my theme come across?

No. Pick or build a theme in Hatamoto. The content comes across, the design does not.
